About the Activity

The Austronesian Wedding is an activity held by the Maolin National Scenic Area Administration featuring the region’s indigenous cultures. It follows the wedding traditions of Paiwan and Rukai tribal chiefs in the three townships of Pingbei, Majia, Sandimen and Wutai.

Dawu is a sacred mountain of Rukai and Paiwan. In Pingtung, because the Sun rises from Dawu, the mountain is believed to be the source of life. The indigenous people also believe that their ancestral spirits reside in Dawu, and therefore mythologies and legends about Dawu are spread far and wide.

This year, Dawu and its particular stories about love are integrated into an activity entitled “Austronesian Wedding: Love in Dawu.” In Sandimen Township, Pingtung County, this activity is just about to begin…
